about

Writing songs has always been a catharsis and therapeutic outlet to help deal with what I'm feeling - which is often guilt and more guilt. Taking 2 hours to write this song just before Christmas in 2010 when I felt like I should have been doing something else was the first time that my go-to guilt-reliever actually added to my guilt...
The song is about being dealing with the dark and cold and being well-connected but also distracted and disengaged...

lyrics

On a silent night,
‘Cross the sun-starved land
Under orange street lights
It’s a long white hell
For weary bodies and beaten minds
Hide the doorways we can’t find
In a world we don’t recognize

Who are we working for?
Will the sun make us strong?
Reach the winter’s ice damned
Bring warmth to our hands,
Beaten bodies, and guilty minds
Bring love back to our lives
To a world we can recognize

Take us from our boxes
Take us from our cars
Take us from the gadgets distracting our desires
In a world boasting connections
We’re pushed farther apart
By the walls of our ambition
Left alone and in the dark…

But when we see the stars
Through the city’s orange lights
They tell us where we are
Tell us where to start
They tell us where we are
Tell us where to start
For a world we can recognize
