about

Written just before recording Fuselage in 1998, the original version showed how tough it was for me to keep the drums in sync with the click. This version was recorded 7 years later in Guelph.

lyrics

We all sit here, and discuss amongst ourselves
Trivial suggestions to answer all our questions
But here we sit, and here we sing
We’re made to ponder each and every little thing
And then the words you said they thought so profound
The words you said, I’ve got written down
The words you said they thought so profound
The words you said, I could not read aloud

It takes a blind eye to forget
The angel upon your shoulder
The pains of our misfortunes
Crushed in to the mortar of our embrace

I said I just miheard what you said
I swear this problem it’s come between us
I’m sorry like I said, but even
A steady hand needs fair warning, needs fair warning.

It takes a lifetime to forage
The mysteries that enrage us
The shiny rocks that engage us
And the problems we leave in stages of trouble and disrepair

The words you said I thought so profound
Duly noted, maybe someday I will need to pull them out
The words you said on unstable ground
Duly noted, maybe someday I will need to pull them out
How could you’ve known this is how I’d be found
It’s down-times like these that I need to have you around
I’ll remember this ‘til you’re back in town
And cure my loneliness before I hit the ground

I just misjudged what you said
It came loud and clear this morning
Like a boot-kick in the head, I realized
The damage of my foreboding was well beyond repair
