about

Playing tunes in the backyard of the flat we rented behind Bronte Beach in Sydney back in 1999. I had written the riffs almost a year earlier but hadn't found inspiration until I had one neighbour slam his door shut and the other tell me that he could play two chords over and over again too! For the record, I didn't protest - I apologized - and went back inside with my guitar, apparently fuming pissed...

lyrics

You crack your whip across my spine,
I’m a little too stubborn to let you lay that line…
As you complain that your fortress is paper thin,
And that these two chords are a little intrusive then…

Well, I’m sorry for crashing in to your little world,
I’m sorry you don’t sing along when I play these chords.
But you get off on putting us down,
And you’re gonna pay when my choice of gods comes…
Down.

And the race you’re in is with yourself
A little too stubborn to ask your friends for help
And it’s so tragic that you should blame it all on me,
‘Cause I can’t make you whom you’d rather be…

And I’m sorry for crashing in to your little world,
I’m sorry you don’t sing along when I play these chords.
But you get off on putting us down,
And you’re gonna pay when my choice of gods comes…
Down.
