about

Written at Eagle Lake in 1996, the song is dedicated to Kevin - a 9-day canoe trip-mate that was struggling with the paddling and portages, but that I did not even try to understand or have fun with until we were all scared shitless in a leaky tent perched on a hill at the end of Big Crow Lake in the midst of what felt like the biggest lightning storm ever...I learned a lot that night...

lyrics

We turned each other out
Out of comfort, without a doubt
And we carried on without
Without a thought, without you about
And we laughed every time you cried

Because you thought you were dyin’
Walking by yourself in the moonlight
Shadows in the calm before the rain
Midnight storm

And so we sat trapped with each other
With the storm outside our tent
Found we were all in this together
And you spoke a word I could understand
Over the sound of the thunder’s crash
Midnight storm

Introspective and narrative, Brian hangs out in the gray zone between advocating and mourning, ambition and uncertainty..
