about

Abdul toured 3 friends and I around the medina of Tetouan, parading past cops who wished us luck, to tea houses, to his mom's house, to the bank, to the washroom, to the hotel...and then he wouldn't let us go. He would threaten anyone who spoke to us. We would lose him, jump in a cab and then he would threaten the cabbie so we'd be forced back in to his custody He assured us that he would follow us to Fez, to Marrakesh...

lyrics

He swore he would follow them to wherever they were headed
Cursed and threatened to kill their new friends
He lead them around in circles, all through the medina
A beautiful day they could not wait to end

Suffocating in Tetouan
Early the next morning, they were gone
And on the hydrofoil, they couldn't leave there fast enough
Time to little on water too rough

He said, hey come on down, you're from out of town
Take the mint tea from me, religious deformity
This reciprocal man, they could not understand
They begged him to leave, they begged him desperately
Why can't you find someone new?

And after Abdul was through, a new place they would stray to
It seemed hardly fair to stay just there
He left on the morning train to walk about on his lonesome
Happiest days he'd had...
He sketched on his notebook page
Feeling he'd come of age
Oh, but these fits of rage?
I cannot work I've gone insane

I'm coming down, I've been kicked around
Now I'm walking free, no you can't get to me
This reciprocal woman, she's made out of stone
I lent her a hand but I still feel alone
So why can't I find someone new?
How did I get stuck with you?
